How many of us set ourselves the goal to make 2019 our best year yet? A lot of us I imagine. But here’s the thing, it’s now March… and well some you haven’t made any changes since last year. Let me teach you 4 incredible ways to get your life back in order right now.
Before you do anything, the first thing I recommend is to declutter your home and most importantly your work space. The more you cut back on unnecessary clutter, the less mess and stress you will have.
It can be difficult to decide where to begin when it feels like your whole life is a mess and in need of decluttering. From personal experience, I always start with the room I spend most time in – mine being my bedroom. This is where my desk is, my wardrobe, my makeup area and of course my bed is.
So what’s next? Set aside some time for yourself (a good couple of hours) and make yourself a drink. Maybe put on your favourite playlist and some comfy clothes too! Now it’s time to get to work…here’s my top three rules when it comes to decluttering:
Step One: Evaluate one space at a time and decide what is clutter and what it is you want to keep. Make a pile of rubbish and a pile of stuff you’re keeping.
Step Two: With all the items you’ve decided to keep you need to create a ‘home’ for every single one. Whether it be in a drawer, on display, or in a box under the bed – it needs a designated ‘home’.
Step Three: Deep clean each area. Get the anti-bacterial spray out, the polish and a few cloths.
Step Four: Reward yourself, relax and then move onto the next room.
If you’ve been dreaming of a self care routine that uplifts, up-levels, & recharges you each and every day then you’re in the right place. This year I need you to make a goal of yours self-care, you need to make yourself a priority in your schedule this year. Your mind is the most powerful tool, look after it.
Ten Simple Ways To Look After Yourself:
- Make your bed before you do anything else. This will immediately make your room look more put together.
- Drink plenty of water, ideally before your cup of tea or coffee.
- Pray or mediate, even just for five or ten minutes. A great app for this is headspace! It sets the tone for your day and helps you stay grounded.
- Go for a walk or workout at the gym, it’s just as important to look after your body as it is your mind.
- Eat nutritious meals and snacks throughout the day.
- Take a long, hot shower and relax.
- Regularly pamper yourself: do a face mask, paint your nails, get your hair cut or coloured, etc. If you look good you will feel good.
- Exfoliate and look after your skin! A good skincare routine with plenty of water and a healthy diet will work wonders.
- Make time to wash your makeup brushes, you’ll thank yourself.
- Switch off your phone for at least an hour a day and live in the moment.
I am such a huge planner myself, I just love the feeling of being on top of my game. Currently, I’ve got a diary where I track my achievements, goals and what I’m grateful for each week. Then I have a notebook for my creative outbursts as well as a separate weekly planner!
Of course, it’s probably not necessary to have this many notebooks but it’s what works for me. If you’re just starting out with planners, I would recommend getting two. The first one for your weekly schedules and the second one for notes and scribbles! TK Maxx have some great affordable pads, as well as Skinny Dip.
Using Your Planner: Essentially, this planner is going to be where you write almost everything. Use this to plan your blog posts, your workouts, appointments, and deadline reminders. Every Sunday sit down with this planner and write down your weekly goals, your weekly budget and batch task everything. If you fancy getting super organised you could even meal prep in advance!
Using Your Notebook: See this as your go-to book for ideas, inspiration and scribbles. Keep it by your laptop during the day and by your bed at night time. Is it just me that will have a creative outburst in the middle of the night? This is why I keep mine by my bed! I can jot down everything that comes to mind and then review in the morning when I’m more awake.
Create A Night Routine
If you’re really serious about getting your life together, ideally you need to be able to wake up easily in the morning. Now this all starts with the night before. Set yourself a rough time you plan to sleep and work around this. For me I aim to sleep any time before midnight – depending what time my shift finishes that night.
To ensure you fall into a relaxing sleep, make sure you switch your phone off and any other distractions. I know how tempting it can be to spend the whole night scrolling through the likes of Facebook and Instagram so if you really cant resist the temptation then I recommend charging your phone in another room. Save scrolling for the morning. I personally like to use Twitter as my little newspaper in the mornings haha!
