Being an entrepreneur has it’s many challenges but how does this look when you’re away travelling? Let me tell you a secret…it’s not about working harder, you just need to work smarter. So here are my top 6 tips for travelling when you own a business.
Schedule Everything Possible
When I say everything possible, I mean simply the necessities. For example schedule valuable blog posts to go out throughout the time you’re away, schedule promotional tweets, batch plan Instagram captions – you get my drift! Personally, before I travel I set up a new folder in notes on my iPhone and name it ‘captions’. I’ll then spend an hour or two batching captions that can be copied and pasted for the gram whilst I’m away. Trust me it’s a massive time saver and you can also do this with hashtags if you want to be extra prepared.
By scheduling a ton of your content ahead of time will mean you can focus on the live tasks such as client projects rather than social media. Of course, you still want to be posting live on Instagram stories if this is in your marketing strategy etc so don’t schedule EVERYTHING as it will come across inauthentic.
Take Advantage Of Flight Time & Airports
Girl, every spare minute counts. That time when you’re sat mindlessly scrolling or people watching at the airport that’s time you could be working on your business. Whether it be responding to emails, onboarding clients, or replying to blog comments make sure you use it effectively.
Have An Effective Plan
Before you head out on your travels, make sure you have a personalised plan that works for you and your business. This may be setting aside an hour or two each evening to catch up on emails and client work. Perhaps you need less or more time to do these tasks? Schedule in what’s right for you!
If you’re on the go and want to still learn new knowledge then make sure you download a ton of podcasts before you set off! You can listen to these at the airport, on the plane, to and from destinations or even sunbathing on the beach. When I recently visited Mallorca I absolutely binged listened to The Angie Lee Show and girl let me tell you I learnt a hell of a lot of new knowledge!
Some of my personal favourite podcasts are as followed:
- Jenna Kutcher – The Goal Digger Podcast
- The Angie Lee Show
- Erin May Henry – Game Changers
- The Stevie Says Social Podcast
Create Content As You Go
No matter what platform you’re on, being away on holiday or travelling the world can seriously bring you some amazing content opportunities. Snap the beautiful locations, share images of yourself to increase the awareness around your personal brand, film mini daily vlogs on Instagram stories or even share behind the scenes footage! Whatever it is you decide to do, get creative with it and understand that people love REALNESS.
Missed your flight? Insta story it. Embracing the no make up life? Insta story it. Smashed all your emails? Insta story it. Got a cute outfit on? Insta story it. You can quite literally make anything into a story and people will fall in love with your relatability factor.
Expand Your Team
Last but not least, depending on the size of your business you may want to think about expanding your team and hiring a virtual assistant to take care of a few admin tasks whilst you’re away. A virtual assistant can upload social media posts, manage your emails, pin to Pinterest, schedule your diary, proof read, approve and reply to blog comments etc.
