Every Friday over on my Instagram I offer free mini audits. Why am I telling you this? Well, one thing massively stood out for me when I started these audits. Many business owners don’t know how to utilise their bio and name headline effectively! This is a HUGE mistake and can ultimately stop potential clients from hiring you or even finding your account. But don’t panic as I’m today I’m sharing my top 5 tips for creating the perfect Instagram bio…
Your Headline / Name:
The space where you add your name on Instagram is searchable! Utilise this and add keywords. For example on my page I write my name as ‘Ellie | Social Media Manager’.
Personally, I still like to add in my actual name so people can put Ellie to my face! However, the important part here is the adding of social media manager. By taking advantage of this searchable feature I am increasing the chances of someone finding my page when searching for a social media manager. Some other examples could be:
- Style Blogger
- Vegan Cosmetics
- Lifestyle YouTuber
- Business Coach
- Manchester Photographer
TOP TIP: If you’re a local business, perhaps a café or photographer, you can use the headline space to add in your location too! This will help you reach your targeted audience.
Use this to tell your audience the value they can expect to receive from your account. If you’re a service based account, a great format to follow is the ‘I help’ statement. So for example “I help female entrepreneurs master their social media strategy”. You can then expand and include HOW you help them and what RESULT they can expect to see after working with you – “so they can kick overwhelm”.
If you do have some space, either list your services or add a personal touch here! Write something about you that people might relate to or find interesting. It can be anything from wanderlust to cat lover.
TOP TIP: Avoid using hashtags in your bio. Hashtags are not searchable and they ARE clickable. So essentially you’re sending someone away from your page girl!
Call To Action
In my opinion, the call to action is one of the most crucial parts of your Instagram page. It’s your job to make someone want to click that link! You either need an irresistible offer or something mysterious that makes them want to find out more. Choose your words wisely!
Here are some great examples:
- Tune in to the podcast!
- Check out my latest video below!
- Learn how to X so you no longer have to X!
Use this space to promote your latest digital product, your website, your services, your opt-in offer. What value can you provide for someone’s first time visiting your page?
A great website to check out is Link Tree! It’s a free tool for optimising your Instagram traffic. You get one bio link to house all the content you’re driving followers to, I highly recommend it if you’re looking to link to more than just one offer.
Last but not least, your Instagram display picture needs to be of you! Especially if you’re a service based business, people want to know who you are before they work with you. By putting a face to your brand you are showing you’re a real person which immediately gains trust with your audience.
I recommend choosing a high quality, head shot of yourself so when people see your image they’re inclined to click through to your page to find out more. If you need a photographers expertise and you’re based near Brighton then check out this!
