Something I am regularly asked is ‘Ellie, how do I use Instagram Stories to my advantage?’. Now if this sounds like you girl, you’re certainly in the right place!
I recommend you read through this post twice. Once to take it all in, and secondly with a notebook and pen to take notes and create ideas for what could work for you and your business/brand.
Let’s dive straight in with some quick and easy tips that you can implement right now!
Show up every single day: This is ultimately the most important tip I could give you about Instagram stories. You need to be consistently showing up. Even if it’s just a hello, how are you all.
In order to build a strong brand presence you have to stay committed to showing your face and the behind the scenes of your business/life day in and day out. This way you’re getting in front of your community and your dream clients consistently!
Upload a minimum of 3-5 stories per day: I tell all my client’s this because this is exactly how you’re going to see real results.
Share free valuable content with your audience and mix it up. You could start off with some talking videos then move on to an image with a gif or maybe even a boomerang!
Don’t forget to add subtitles: When I’m creating a talking video on stories, I literally write out what I’m saying word for word in a text box.
This is because I know people watch stories when they can’t turn on the sound (I even do it myself). So, if you want to increase your engagement, I highly recommend adding subtitles.
Use Gifs and Emojis: A great way to add some personality and fun to your brand! I’m always more attracted to stories that involved a funny gif.
Location Tags: This is something that is massively underrated and is so powerful! Tag your location to expand your reach and if you’re a local business make sure you use this on pretty much every story.
Hashtags: You can use up to ten hashtags per Instagram story so make sure you’re utilising this.
If you’re worried about coming across ‘spammy’ then simply make the hashtag the same colour as your background and the hashtag will be hidden.
So what exactly should you post on Instagram stories as a small business?

Next up you need to create your strategy. Include when you plan to post on stories, how many times a day etc. Maybe you could create weekly themed days to help engage your audience and ensure they’re constantly coming back for more.
For example: Takeover Tuesday – Every Tuesday you could have a loyal customer take over your story to share their experience when working with yourself.
Get creative and brain dump in your notebook. The ideas will flow naturally.
